- The _R_e_s_t_o_r_e command copies the named file or directory from a local or
- remote backup tapes to disk. If no file or directory is specified,
- _R_e_s_t_o_r_e copies all the files found on the tape to disk.
-
- Files are restored into the current directory if the backup tape contains
- pathnames beginning with "....".
-
- Files on disk are overwritten even if they are more recent than the
- respective files on tape.
-
- The options and arguments to _R_e_s_t_o_r_e are:
-
- ----hhhh _h_o_s_t_n_a_m_e If a tape drive attached to a remote host is used for
- restoring, specify the name of the remote host with the
- ----hhhh _h_o_s_t_n_a_m_e option. For remote restore to successfully
- work, you should have a TCP/IP network connection to the
- remote host and gggguuuueeeesssstttt login privileges on that host.
-
- ----tttt _t_a_p_e_d_e_v_i_c_e If the local or remote tape device is pointed to by a
- device file other than /_d_e_v/_t_a_p_e, the device should be
- specified by the ----tttt _t_a_p_e_d_e_v_i_c_e option.
-
- _d_i_r_e_c_t_o_r_y__n_a_m_e Restore just the files in the directory _d_i_r_e_c_t_o_r_y__n_a_m_e.
- This is not the inverse of passing a single directory to
- the _B_a_c_k_u_p program. It is intended for restoring only
- some directories from a full backup. To restore files
- when only a single directory was archived with _B_a_c_k_u_p,
- The wild card **** must be used, since they are archived
- relative to the given directory. When in doubt, use
- _L_i_s_t__t_a_p_e to see the archive contents.
-
- _f_i_l_e__n_a_m_e Restore just the file _f_i_l_e__n_a_m_e.
-
- The _R_e_s_t_o_r_e command expects the backup tape to be in the special _b_r_u(1),
- _t_a_r(1) (older releases) or _c_p_i_o(1) (newer releases) format written by
- _B_a_c_k_u_p(1) and by the System Manager Backup & Restore tool when doing full
- (not partial) backups. This is the same format used for system recovery.
-
- SSSSEEEEEEEE AAAALLLLSSSSOOOO
- Backup(1), List_tape(1), bru(1), cpio(1), tar(1).
